The Baby Diaries Part 2: Barron + Serena's Nursery

Happy Labor Day Weekend!!!  I hope you are enjoying the time off and soaking up the end of the Summer sun!  I've managed to spend most of my weekend in doors, enjoying the AC and laying around relaxing.  Just when I think I have the energy to do something, all I want to do is lay down again.  I'm a complete bum with a huge belly and officially over being pregnant!  I'm still working and plan on doing so till I give birth, which is probably stupid because I get even more exhausted but it keeps me busy and I like the company of my co-workers all day.  I have managed to get a few things done, like decorate the nursery Barron will be sharing with his Sissy (I have packed my hospital bag in case I do go into labor sooner than I expect!)
I wanted their room to be very calming and relaxing when we're in there.  I chose Behr's Dolphin Fin as the wall color.  It's seriously a gorgeous color and if I knew how to properly work my Canon EOS camera you could get a better idea of it, but I don't, so take my word, this color is gorgeous!  It's definitely on the lighter side, which I wanted.  Since Barron hasn't transitioned out of his crib yet, I haven't put the bumper pads or dust ruffle on yet, so it's lacking a bit of color there, but you get the idea.
I still have 2 silver picture frames to hang over the crib, one is Barron's birth announcement and once this little girl gets here, hers is going up on the wall too!
I made the changing table area for little Sissy.  All her clothes (and I mean all the drawers are packed with her clothes!) are stored here as well as diapers and supplies you need when changing diapers.  I gave in and ordered on Amazon some stupidly expensive diaper pail system since I will now be changing 2 kids' diapers and figured the plastic ghetto grocery bag method I've been using wasn't going to cut it anymore.
Here's my solution to a glider or rocker...Ikea's Poang Chair in Black/Brown with a Granan White cushion.  First, the thing is cost effective at about $150 all in, second it bounces, and third it's really comfy!  I just couldn't justify spending $600 on a glider that I wasn't going to use that long.  I found this ottoman at a local thrift shop and the thing was totally beat down.  It was $20 out the door and I had my mom give it some tender loving care to bring it back to life!  I found this flamingo fabric at F&S and knew I wanted to use it somewhere in the nursery.  It brought in some coral pink without making the room too girly, so it works for both kids.  The gray leopard pillow I found online at C. Wonder  for about $30 for 2!
I sadly had to move my white Expedit from my office and switched it with the 4x4 black/brown model that was in here before for more space.  It creates so much storage and the framed art is Barron's first piece that I bid on at his little art auction at daycare!  Kids art is my favorite thing and framed with a nice white matte makes it look even more special.
I created a little nook for Sissy's little shoes and growing hair bow collection!
After countless hours on Pinterest, I was inspired to create a book wall for Barron.  I found these picture ledges at Ikea that were super easy to hang.  I love all the colors the books bring into the room and he can grab a book and we can hang out and read.
The chevron pillow was a Home Goods purchase...
I bought the blanket on the bed at Pottery Barn and had Barron's name monogrammed on it, and they don't carry it anymore, which I am super bummed about because I wanted to get a matching one for Sissy, but now I'm looking elsewhere.  The toddler bed was purchased online from Amazon, it's the Davinci Modena model.  It was a pain to put together but it uses a crib mattress and sheets, so it's a nice transition for now.

There are a few more things I want to add like a rug and some colorful pillows, but for now, we are good to go and I'm just glad that I was able to get it done!!!  Now I can relax....

Snapshots From the Weekend

My first Mother's Day was really sweet spending time alone with the Little B!  I took Barron and Sophie for an early morning stroll to Starbucks in Brentwood.
We picked up some pink peonies at Whole Foods (my favorite flower).
We spent the evening having dinner with my family in Manhattan Beach.
I was playing around with the Hipstamatic app on my iphone and absolutely love how the pictures look with the sun setting in the background!
Taking pictures is so much more fun now with this app!
My Mom (with Barron in the stroller) and my Dad in the background.
...and the peonies made it to my desk.
It was a good day.

Back to Work

Today is a sad day.  I'm officially back to work and Barron is off to day care.
Maternity Leave, you were very good to me and we had fun!
But, there is a small part of me that is really excited to get back to work, to get dressed up everyday, and interact with adults again.

The Baby Diaries: L'Alphabet Francais

I stumbled upon this adorable French Alphabet again today over on Etsy and it's just calling my name!!!  I've been looking for the perfect wall art to hang and this one caught my eye with it's effortless style and charm.

The pastel colors of robin's egg, apple green, and pink would add the perfect touch to my nursery...

... and little Barron will be on his way to learning French!  How sweet!

The Perfect Push Present

If you were reading my blog back in the Fall you may have seen my post about signet rings. I've had a love affair for this classic piece of jewelry since I received my first one from my high school when I was a senior. My husband got me this piece from Tiffany as a push present and I had my son's monogram engraved on the top so I am always reminded of him when I'm wearing it. I'm beyond thrilled at the quality of workmanship of the engraving and the style of the letters turned out just the way I wanted them. If you are interested in buying a signet ring from Tiffany I suggest you do it soon! They told me they will soon be discontinued...bummer!

The Baby Diaries: He Arrived!!!

Barron Edmund Stern came charging into the world on December 5th, 2010! It's been a whirlwind since his arrival, we made it through the holidays, and I am managing to operate on very little sleep...and now after a month our little family has adjusted very well! Barron is a great little traveller going on little "field trips" with his mommy to the mall, fabric and furniture stores, and of course Starbucks, to keep on going. I'm not big on New Year's Resolutions, but at the top of my list is to de-clutter, clean out, and get organized. I also am going to try to get a blog post or two in between feedings, naps, and diaper changes. Motherhood is a lot of work, but good work and it feels great to be back in the blogosphere!
"Hi I'm Barron!"

The Baby Diaries: My Baby Belly

I'm happy to say, I am 37 weeks pregnant and can't wait to soon meet my little baby boy! It's all seemed to fly by so quickly, yet it feels like forever since I haven't had a little person growing inside of me.

My wedding photographer Kimberlee Miller took these shots of me at 8 months pregnant and I was so excited to get the pictures back! I feel she really captured the peaceful, serene, and calm feelings that I have experienced during this time.

I feel very lucky and so blessed that this process has been a very happy and enjoyable one.

I also feel like this is the calm before the storm...to be continued!

The Baby Diaries: Baby Boy Names

I've had a baby name list going since I was about 13 years old. The other day I found one of my old plaid covered journals with some of my favorite names listed in it and I couldn't help but laugh, but also think, I was a pretty forward thinking adolescent since some of the names gained popularity again over the years. I've always preferred names that are preppy, traditional, a little offbeat, a little Brit inspired, and definitely unique, but in a completely NON-TRENDY way. Here are some of my favorites from the past and some I have added over the years.

The Baby Diaries: Nursery Art

I've had my eye on these 2 little guys for quite sometime now. Katie Armour, over at The Neotraditionalist (one of my favorite daily reads), first introduced me to Eastwitching Gallery on Etsy and I have been in love with these watercolors ever since! You may have seen "The King of Fox Hollow" as one of Katie's favorites in latest issue of Lonny. I think either of these regal creatures would add the perfect Anglo touch to my little one's nursery. The print is 8x10" and I'd like to frame it and lean it on the little white shelf right by the crib. I'm torn between the Fox and the Lion...

If I had more room I'd buy a collection to hang on the wall...here are some of my other favorites...

The Baby Diaries: No Regrets

After searching and shopping for the perfect baby bag, I ultimately purchased my first choice, the Kate Spade Nylon Maryanne. I was super excited and a little nervous at its arrival yesterday, since it's only available online, I wasn't able to see or try it on in person. Much to my surprise, it's utterly perfect and I have no regrets purchasing it! Not only is it the perfect size, color, and style, it's super functional for toting bottles, pacifiers, diapers, and comes complete with a diaper changing pad (a quite large one), tons of pockets, zipper compartments, and straps for hanging on the stroller (which made me fall in love with it). My favorite part about it, are the gleaming gold chain straps, patent leather trim, and everything is waterproof. I'm not really a shoe person, but I absolutely have a love for purses, so this one will add nicely to my collection, even if it is a baby bag.

The Baby Diaries: Burberry Diaper Bags

While shopping the 20% off sale going on now at Bloomi's, I was on a mission to find that Burberry shawl I blogged about a few days ago. Then I realized, the baby will be here sooner than I think and I don't even have a diaper bag!!!
So I decided to cruise the purse section instead (really my favorite section of the store over the shoes!). I came across the king of all diaper bags: the Burberry Madison Diaper Tote - pictured below - and fell head over heels in love! My jaw dropped when I saw the price tag of $850!!!

After trying to justify that it's so chic and stylish, I will have it forever, it's a classic, I will use after the baby grows up, I can use it for work, I just couldn't pull the trigger. My brain kicked it and told me, this is a bag for carrying dirty diapers, Cheerios, formula, baby bottles, throw up rags, and pretty much all things gross, therefore I should NOT be spending this kind of money. So, I think I'm back to my first plan of going with the Kate Spade baby bag I found at the Camarillo Outlets and I will treat myself to a fancy purse sometime in the near future - which will probably be a long time from now.

Hawken's Nursery

I came across this adorable nursery while searching for inspiration online and thought I would share it with all of you! Not only do I love the clean and modern white palette, but the mix of different furniture pieces and the gray stripes on the walls have me swooning!
The designer of this little newborn baby boy's nursery is his mommy, Lindsay Anyon Brier, of Anyon Interior Design in San Francisco, CA.
